Advancing Women's Rights
As the former Executive Director of MARAL Pro-Choice Michigan, Rebekah has championed women's issues as both an advocate and a legislator. She is unfailingly on the front lines of the battle to secure equal pay for equal work and to protect access to the full range of reproductive health care options. Her work has included:
Advocating for support programs for domestic violence survivors, while advancing legislation to give our young people the tools they need to build healthy relationships.
Defending affirmative action programs to help ensure women’s access to equal educational and employment opportunities.
Championing access to the full range of reproductive health care options.
Enforcing pay equity for women and men doing equivalent work.
Protecting gender-specific health programs, such as breast, cervical, and prostate cancer screenings, sexually transmitted infections (STIs) testing, breastfeeding promotion and prenatal smoking cessation.
Advancing measures that provide assistance and support to long-term care consumers and caregivers.
Working to create quality, affordable child care and early education programs so that women are not unnecessarily prohibited from employment.
Promoting support programs for sexual assault survivors and forwarding legislation that would require emergency room staff to inform survivors about emergency contraception, or the “morning-after pill.”
